Since the establishment of the railways in Western Australia, various methods of ensuring the safety of the travelling public and employees have been addressed in various ways.
The working of trains over a single line of rails between stations was particularly fruaght with dangers, and this was recognised early and working methods were employed to use the best technology available at the time to ensure utmost safety.
